Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

The short version. Marine Drill Assistant has no accounts and no sign-up. Everything you put into the app — your crew list, your checklist ticks, your settings — is stored on your device and is never sent to us. We run no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only personal data that leaves your device does so through the App Store or Google Play when you buy a subscription, and that is handled by them.

1. Who we are

Marine Drill Assistant ("the app") is developed and published by Kuka Lab ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, write to kukalab@mail.com.

2. What the app stores, and where

All of the following is written to your device's local application storage. None of it is transmitted to us, and we have no ability to read it.

DataWhy it existsWhere it lives
Crew list imported from your .xlsx file — names and, if present, rank and cabinTo run the emergency roll call and produce the drill reportYour device only
Roll-call ticks and checklist stateSo a drill can be resumed after the app is closedYour device only
Interface language, theme and text sizeTo keep your settings between launchesYour device only
The date your free trial startedTo calculate how much of the trial remainsYour device only

Deleting the app removes all of it. We hold no copy and cannot restore it for you.

About the crew list. A crew list contains other people's personal data. You choose whether to import it, and you remain responsible for having a lawful basis to process it and for handling it in line with your company's own data protection rules. The app keeps it on the device and never uploads it — but once you export a drill report and share it by email, messenger or any other channel, that transfer is yours, not ours, and this policy no longer covers it.

3. What we do not do

4. Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are sold by Apple and Google, not by us. We never see or receive your card details, billing address or store account identity.

To recognise whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription-management service. RevenueCat is given a randomly generated, pseudonymous application user identifier together with the purchase receipt issued by the store, plus basic technical information such as the platform, app version and country of the store account. It is not given your name or email, and the identifier is not linked to any other data we hold, because we hold none. See RevenueCat's privacy policy, Apple's and Google's.

5. Features that involve your device or third parties

Briefing audio

Playing a briefing aloud uses the text-to-speech engine built into your operating system. The drill text is passed to that engine by the app. Depending on your device settings and the voice you have installed, your operating system may process this on the device or on the vendor's servers. That processing is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policy, not ours, and we receive nothing back.

Exporting a drill report

A report is generated on your device and handed to the system share sheet. You choose the destination. The file is written to the app's temporary storage and is not sent anywhere by us.

Safety flashes link

The app contains a link to IMCA's published safety flashes. Opening it launches your browser and takes you to a third-party website that we do not control and whose privacy practices are its own. We do not fetch, store or process any of that content.

6. Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies: because the app processes your content only on your own device, we act as a controller for almost nothing. For the limited subscription data described in section 4, our legal basis is the performance of our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)) — without it we cannot tell whether you are entitled to the paid features. Where you import a crew list, you act as the controller for that data; we neither determine the purposes of that processing nor have access to it.

7. Retention

On-device data is retained until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Subscription records held by RevenueCat and the stores are retained under their own policies and for as long as needed to service the subscription and meet tax and accounting obligations.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to it. For anything stored on your device, you can exercise all of these yourself at any time: clear the crew list in the app, change your settings, or uninstall the app. For subscription data, write to us at kukalab@mail.com and we will help you direct the request to the right processor. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

The app is a professional tool for seafarers and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect data from them.

10. International transfers

Content you create stays on your device and is not transferred anywhere. The subscription data described in section 4 may be processed by RevenueCat, Apple and Google on servers outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards set out in their own policies.

11. Security

Your data is protected by your device: its passcode, its encryption and the sandbox the operating system places around each app. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server of ours to breach. Keep your device locked and up to date — that is the meaningful control here.

12. Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is material, note it in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
